We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of Art to inspire and nurture students’ creativity within our educational institution. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging art lessons, fostering artistic development, and supporting students across a range of abilities. As a specialist school for Autistic pupils aged from 11 to 19, Vanguard School, part of Liberty Trust, we provide a learning experience that enables our students to achieve the best outcomes. Our pupils access a curriculum that includes three domains; personal, social and academic delivered through three pathways that match pupils cognitive ability. Responsibilities
- Design and deliver comprehensive art lessons tailored to students’ age groups and skill levels, incorporating various mediums and techniques.
- Foster a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages creativity, experimentation, and self-expression.
- Mentor students in developing their artistic skills, providing constructive feedback and personalised guidance.
- Integrate interdisciplinary approaches, including journalism, creative writing, and visual storytelling, into art projects.
- Support students by adapting teaching strategies and materials accordingly.
- Manage behaviour effectively to maintain an organised and respectful learning environment.
- Assist students with proofreading their written work related to art projects or journalistic assignments.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum plans that incorporate organisational skills, tutoring, and cross-curricular activities such as maths integration where appropriate.
- Organise exhibitions or displays of student artwork to celebrate achievements and promote the arts within the school community.
Requirements
- Proven experience in teaching art or related creative subjects at various educational levels.
Strong communication skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and parents. - Knowledge of behaviour management techniques suitable for diverse classroom settings.
Organisational skills necessary for lesson planning, resource management, and maintaining student records. - Familiarity with special education practices to support learners with additional needs.
- Ability to inspire creativity through innovative teaching methods and artistic techniques.
- A recognised teaching qualification in art or a related discipline is preferred but not essential for experienced practitioners committed to professional development.
- This role provides an enriching environment where educators can foster artistic talents while contributing positively to student growth and confidence in the arts.
