Julian’s School

Streatham site: 226 Leigham Court Road, London SW16 2RB / West Norwood site: 16 Wolfington Road, London SE27 0JF

We are a popular, growing and successful primary school based on two sites working in partnership with each other as one school. We admit two forms of entry to our West Norwood site on Wolfington road (60) and three forms of entry to our Streatham site on Leigham Court road (90) each year.

We are a school:
With creativity at its core
Where outstanding teaching and learning leads to excellent standards
Where everybody matters
Where great care is taken to provide a high quality learning environment
Where we aim to develop responsible citizens of the future
Where we actively draw on and involve our community

Our Values of Respect, Integrity, Creativity, Excellence and Resilience underpin and are embedded in every aspect of school life.

Julian’s School offers an outstanding curriculum, which is broad and balanced and enables our children to be successful. We work in partnership with a number of organisations to enhance the curriculum we offer including the Moving Matters Sports Partnership, CLC Lambeth, The Primary Shakespeare Company and Lambeth Music Service, to extend and enrich the curriculum for our school. Each year we work alongside creative practitioners on an aspect of our curriculum.

Our children thrive in the nurturing environment we provide at Julian’s. When they leave us at the end of Year 6 they are confident, articulate and well-rounded young adults ready and prepared for the challenge of secondary school, having had a full range of opportunities to develop as individuals.

Our dedicated staff are committed to making a difference for each and every child in the school. All staff work together to create a caring, secure, happy, purposeful and stimulating environment, where each child feels respected and valued and is encouraged to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their development.

At Julian’s, we welcome parents/carers as partners in their children's education for it is only through true partnership - based on trust, co-operation and support - that we can do the very best for your child. We aim to be outstanding in every aspect, developing our distinctive ethos and pushing the boundaries of excellence.

Holmewood Nursery school is situated in Central Lambeth, off Brixton Hill.  The school is located in a densely populated area of contrasting households in terms of culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.

Holmewood provides education for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with 95 full time equivalent places in the main nursery (2 - 4 year olds) and 12 full time equivalent places in the two year old provision.  The school's intake is very culturally diverse with a high percentage of children from mixed, or Black-British / Caribbean / African backgrounds. Nearly half of the children speak English as an additional language, with many at the early stages of learning English.

Holmewood is federated with Maytree and Triangle Nursery Schools.  As a Federated Nursery School, Holmewood is led by an Executive Head Teacher, Head of School and teachers working with other qualified early years practitioners. Holmewood offers highly inclusive education with qualified and caring staff.  It has rich and varied indoor and outdoor learning environments that allow children to play and be active in developing and acquiring new skills and knowledge; children are well motivated and are thoroughly absorbed in their learning.

They are encouraged to experiment and explore and children are very well challenged to enable them to take risks safely and develop their own problem solving skills. Outdoor learning is supported through the Natural Thinkers curriculum and an extensive allotment.

Each child is allocated a Key Person, one of our skilled early years educators or teachers. They get to know the children in their group very well and work in collaboration with their parents. Teachers and practitioners support, encourage and facilitate learning opportunities so that children are happy, confident and independent learners.

All teachers and practitioners have a thorough understanding of children’s early learning and development and the early years foundation stage and understand the importance of working together with parents and other professionals.

At Holmewood, we believe in investing in professional development and bespoke training to meet individual needs so that all teachers and practitioners feel motivated and committed to the continuing success of the school.
