St Bernadette Catholic school is a warm, welcoming and inclusive two form entry junior school (240 on roll), with a strong Catholic ethos where we celebrate our diversity.
‘Pupils learn about each other’s cultures promoting tolerance and respect for differences.’ (Ofsted 2018)
We are very proud of our pupils, who are at the centre of everything we do. We endeavour to prepare them to become life-long learners who have a contribution to make and who care for one another.
The life of our school is centred on our Catholic Faith in which we proclaim the Gospel values of love, peace and justice that influence all our activities and relationships. As an outstanding RE provider, ‘St Bernadette is a warm and welcoming school with an exceptional Catholic ethos. The pupils flourish in its supportive and inclusive atmosphere.’ (Section 48, 2017)
The life of the school is summarised within our Core Values: We are Respectful, We are Responsible, We are Resilient, We are Resourceful, Everyone Matters!
Pupils say that they enjoy being part of the school’s community. ‘‘the school continues to be a happy and safe place where pupils always enjoy learning.’’ (Ofsted 2018)
The school has been in a hard federation since 2017 with St Bede’s Catholic Infant and Nursery School, on Thornton Road, and their Year 2 children transfer here at the end of Key Stage 1.
At St Bernadette, the children develop their knowledge, skills and understanding by engaging in a curriculum centred around challenging children’s texts which ensures a depth and breadth of learning. Our website gallery exemplifies the wealth of learning experiences on offer to our pupils.
Leaders are extremely ambitious for the school and individual pupils and this is borne out in our end of Key Stage results, which are at or above Lambeth and National averages in Reading, Writing and Maths in Key Stage 2.
In our most recent Ofsted inspection it states, ‘the behaviour of pupils around the school and in lessons is very good. Pupils are polite and well mannered. They have a positive approach to work, listen carefully and answer questions confidently.’ (Ofsted October 2018)
Much of our success is due to our hard-working and highly committed staff and the strong working relationship we have with our supportive parents and carers, our Infant school, our Parish and outside agencies.
Teachers will be joining an amazing team within which they will be well supported and challenged. We can offer good transport links and free parking facilities.
We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our school community.
