St Mark’s is an inclusive one-form entry Church of England Primary School in the heart of Oval. Our diverse intake reflects the local area and the school maintains the feel of a welcoming, close-knit family. Christian values are at the core of our ethos, helping to create a warm, caring environment, within which children feel safe, valued and in which they can thrive in all areas of their development.
Our size enables us to nurture each child throughout the whole school and work in close partnership with all members of the school community. This is reflected in how well we know and work with our children and families and how well we cater for the needs of all pupils at the school. It is also demonstrated through three years of sustained high attainment and strong progress in the core subjects across the school.
Our quality teaching gives our pupils the opportunity to truly flourish during their time at St Mark’s. With our broad, inspirational curriculum, we can ensure rigorous academic challenges and exciting and memorable learning experiences. We have extensive playground space and wildlife and pond area, which is used to enrich children’s learning.
Our location has enabled us to form well established relationships with local organisations, including Kia Oval, Into University, the Oval house Theatre, Oval Tube Station, St Mark’s Church and Southwark Playhouse. All of these partnerships significantly contribute to the learning and experiences of children at St Mark’s and broaden their opportunities.
We were judged as a ‘GOOD’ School by Ofsted in December 2015, who mentioned among other things: the school’s rapid progress, good leadership capacity, rich curriculum and quality of teaching as significant strengths.
