St Saviour’s is a small, friendly and welcoming church school which serves the local community in and around Herne Hill. We have just one class for each year group from Reception to year 6.
We serve an area which is culturally and socially rich and diverse, and are well supported by parents, carers and the local community, especially St Saviour’s Church and St Paul’s Church in the Parish of Herne Hill. Most parents choose to send their children to the school because of our Christian foundation, academic achievements and wider opportunities.
We welcome children from families of every faith and none. There is a family and almost ‘village’ atmosphere about St Saviour’s. Some families have had links with the school for generations, and they continue to want their children to attend as they have happy memories of their time here. Other families are new to the school when their child joins in Reception and quickly get to know our school community.
The governors, leadership team and staff are passionately committed to the school. We have a strong and stable staff team who receive regular training to update their practice and support their professional development.
Our aim is to develop, nurture and celebrate individual talents and personalities whilst emphasising the importance of community, social values, respect and responsibility. We have high expectations for all our children – academically, socially and spiritually – and are proud of the cultural and linguistic diversity of our school, which reflects the local community.
Our values are taken from the Bible, Galatians 5 v 22 & 23 where we encourage children to develop the ‘fruit of the Spirit’: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Our ambition is that our children have an enriching school experience in all areas of the curriculum and beyond.
St Saviour’s School is a popular school in Lambeth and gained a ‘good’ judgement in its last Ofsted inspection. Staff always work together in a dedicated way to improve teaching, learning and each child’s educational experience.
When we recruit new staff to St Saviour’s, we are looking for:

Holmewood Nursery school is situated in Central Lambeth, off Brixton Hill. The school is located in a densely populated area of contrasting households in terms of culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
Holmewood provides education for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with 95 full time equivalent places in the main nursery (2 - 4 year olds) and 12 full time equivalent places in the two year old provision. The school's intake is very culturally diverse with a high percentage of children from mixed, or Black-British / Caribbean / African backgrounds. Nearly half of the children speak English as an additional language, with many at the early stages of learning English.
Holmewood is federated with Maytree and Triangle Nursery Schools. As a Federated Nursery School, Holmewood is led by an Executive Head Teacher, Head of School and teachers working with other qualified early years practitioners. Holmewood offers highly inclusive education with qualified and caring staff. It has rich and varied indoor and outdoor learning environments that allow children to play and be active in developing and acquiring new skills and knowledge; children are well motivated and are thoroughly absorbed in their learning.
They are encouraged to experiment and explore and children are very well challenged to enable them to take risks safely and develop their own problem solving skills. Outdoor learning is supported through the Natural Thinkers curriculum and an extensive allotment.
Each child is allocated a Key Person, one of our skilled early years educators or teachers. They get to know the children in their group very well and work in collaboration with their parents. Teachers and practitioners support, encourage and facilitate learning opportunities so that children are happy, confident and independent learners.
All teachers and practitioners have a thorough understanding of children’s early learning and development and the early years foundation stage and understand the importance of working together with parents and other professionals.
At Holmewood, we believe in investing in professional development and bespoke training to meet individual needs so that all teachers and practitioners feel motivated and committed to the continuing success of the school.
Visits to the school can be arranged by contacting the school office.
