Walnut Tree Walk Primary School

Walnut Tree Walk, Kennington, London SE11 6DS

Walnut Tree Walk Primary School is a unique school with a child-centred approach to learning. We pride ourselves on our family ethos and creative curriculum which gives every child an opportunity to reach their full potential and nurture their individual talents.

We are a very happy and harmonious school with a stable team of experienced staff, meaning that staff turnover is very low. We are a school that values what each and every member of staff brings. When recruiting, we look for individuals who are enthusiastic, highly motivated, and who will inspire our children through the provision of high quality learning experiences.

For successful candidates, we offer

  • willing, enthusiastic children with positive attitudes to learning

  • an inclusive and diverse learning environment

  • opportunities to be creative with the planning and delivery of the curriculum

  • specialist teachers and coaches who teach the children PE, Music, Dance and Modern Foreign Languages.

  • inner London pay

  • a well-established and supportive team of staff

  • access to relevant in-house and external CPD, and opportunities for career progression

We consistently achieve attainment that is in line with or above the national average at the end of KS2 for Reading, Writing and Maths. The broad and balanced creative curriculum complements the high standards of teaching in English and Maths, meaning that children leave with both strong academic skills as well as achieving success in creative subjects. We are very proud of the progress each and every child makes during their time at Walnut Tree Walk. Our high standards of attainment and progress are due to the quality of teaching and learning within the classroom in addition to the wide range of interventions and staff who are there to offer targeted support to children who need it, be it academically or emotionally.

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school in every sense of the word. We are made up of a diverse community with a range of strengths and needs. We encourage children to think for themselves, to question things and to develop as individuals. Our mission is for all children to ‘be the best they can be’ and to leave primary school in Year 6 as well-rounded children with a love of learning, ready for the next stage of their lives, and saying, “I know who I am.”

Holmewood Nursery school is situated in Central Lambeth, off Brixton Hill.  The school is located in a densely populated area of contrasting households in terms of culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.

Holmewood provides education for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with 95 full time equivalent places in the main nursery (2 - 4 year olds) and 12 full time equivalent places in the two year old provision.  The school's intake is very culturally diverse with a high percentage of children from mixed, or Black-British / Caribbean / African backgrounds. Nearly half of the children speak English as an additional language, with many at the early stages of learning English.

Holmewood is federated with Maytree and Triangle Nursery Schools.  As a Federated Nursery School, Holmewood is led by an Executive Head Teacher, Head of School and teachers working with other qualified early years practitioners. Holmewood offers highly inclusive education with qualified and caring staff.  It has rich and varied indoor and outdoor learning environments that allow children to play and be active in developing and acquiring new skills and knowledge; children are well motivated and are thoroughly absorbed in their learning.

They are encouraged to experiment and explore and children are very well challenged to enable them to take risks safely and develop their own problem solving skills. Outdoor learning is supported through the Natural Thinkers curriculum and an extensive allotment.

Each child is allocated a Key Person, one of our skilled early years educators or teachers. They get to know the children in their group very well and work in collaboration with their parents. Teachers and practitioners support, encourage and facilitate learning opportunities so that children are happy, confident and independent learners.

All teachers and practitioners have a thorough understanding of children’s early learning and development and the early years foundation stage and understand the importance of working together with parents and other professionals.

At Holmewood, we believe in investing in professional development and bespoke training to meet individual needs so that all teachers and practitioners feel motivated and committed to the continuing success of the school.
