Henry Cavendish Balham was built and opened in 1898 as Cavendish Road Schools. It was reopened in 1950 after bomb damage repairs were made as Henry Cavendish Junior School and Henry Cavendish Infant School. It amalgamated into Henry Cavendish Primary School in 1989. Henry Cavendish is named after a famous British scientist who is noted for his discovery of hydrogen. He is also known for his measurement of the Earth’s density. Our school is situated in the London Borough of Lambeth however we also take pupils from Wandsworth.
In September 2010 we expanded on a separate site in Streatham to provide additional much needed Primary School places. Henry Cavendish Balham and Henry Cavendish Streatham have pupils from Nursery to Year 6.
Henry Cavendish is a very special place with its own unique ethos. Our School Council spent considerable time discussing what our school motto should include. After much debate they have come up with: Create, Discover, Succeed Together
As a Rights Respecting School our motto acknowledges that we deliver creative learning opportunities where our children take an active part in their education. We firmly believe and build on children’s strengths to ensure that every child is successful. We encourage the children to support each other both academically and socially, hence our pupils do ‘succeed together’ by understanding that the rights of everyone are respected in our diverse society.
We are proud to be a Rights Respecting School and as a consequence our children understand that their actions have an impact on others. This makes the pupils at Henry Cavendish even more supportive of each other.
