Website Richard Atkins Primary
At Richard Atkins Primary School, we are proud to host The Bubble — our on-site alternative provision for a small number of pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The Bubble is a nurturing, therapeutic space that offers children the opportunity to regulate, reconnect, and re-engage with learning in a highly personalised way.
We are looking for a passionate and resilient Learning Mentor to join our team and support these pupils in building emotional resilience, developing positive relationships, and finding success in education.
You will be a key adult for children who face significant barriers to learning. Through strong relationships, clear boundaries, and consistent support, you will help them to develop self-regulation, confidence, and a belief in themselves. You will work closely with other teaching staff, the SLT team, and external professionals to deliver high-quality care and education.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a strong sense of empathy and the ability to form trusted relationships with children who may struggle to trust adults
- Wants to make a difference to the children who need it most
- Is emotionally resilient, calm under pressure, and solution-focused
- Understands the complexities of trauma, attachment difficulties, and emotional dysregulation
- Recognises that education is a powerful life-changer — opening doors, creating opportunities, and helping children rewrite their stories
- Believes that clear, firm, and consistent boundaries are essential for creating a safe and predictable environment in which children can thrive
- Has resilience, patience, and a calm, consistent approach, even in the face of challenging behaviour
- Is a natural motivator and role model, deeply committed to helping young people achieve their potential – no matter their starting point
- Can work effectively as part of a team, under the guidance of specialist staff, but also use their initiative and intuition
- Is a team player who can also use initiative and respond flexibly to daily challenges
Brings a non-judgmental attitude and a genuine desire to understand the ‘why’ behind the behaviour - Want to make a difference through connection
You will need:
Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEMH or in alternative/therapeutic settings
Strong emotional intelligence and resilience
A belief in inclusion, relationship-based practice, and the power of education to change lives.
In return, we offer:
A highly supportive, values-driven school community
Ongoing professional development, including Team Teach and trauma-informed training
A close-knit experienced team committed to inclusion and relationships
A skilled and committed inclusion team to work alongside
The opportunity to change the trajectory of a child’s education and life
