Effra Early Years Centre consists of a maintained nursery school with 125 places available, and a childcare provision for children aged 2-3 years of age with space for 32 children per day. The building is purpose built for early years provision. We deliver high quality early learning both inside and outside to meet the needs of individual children to give them all the building blocks for progress.
The centre is open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM for 48 weeks of the year. This means or childcare is open to support working parents who require a longer day. We also have spaces for funded two year old children. The maintained nursery school offers 8:00-6:00 provision through extended day childcare on site. During holiday periods the extended provision runs and gives high quality childcare at either end of the core nursery school day.
We are a highly inclusive centre and with our qualifies inclusion manager we are able to support the needs of the children and families who may need additional support to support learning and progress. We have trained staff who deliver one to one and group sessions to support communication and language. Every Friday we offer music therapy with a specialist music therapist.
We deliver Forest School provision on site and off site. Onsite forest school is a weekly provision. In addition to this, every child has an opportunity to attend a four week set of sessions which take place in Effra Nature Garden off site for two weeks, and then two weeks at Brockwell Park. Forest School provision helps children to develop self-confidence and resilience and to have an understanding of risk. We understand that being outside and in touch with nature supports the wellbeing of children and adults alike, and we therefore encourage children to care for the environment within and outside our centre.
Effra has a STEM curriculum that sits alongside our EYFS curriculum to further develop science, technology, engineering and maths. This enables our young learners to learn the basics of coding, green screen technology, civil-structural-aeronautical and mechanical engineering, chemistry and chemical reactions- physics- maths in real world applications. Children are willing to try things out and have little fear of technology and using this enthusiasm and the passion for STEM from the teaching team we are able to take children and their learning to places beyond their imaginations. The opportunities are endless for our young learners. We have lots of budding scientists and engineers!
Our staff enjoy regular CPD both in-house and through external providers.
We are keen that parents and carers are actively involved in their child’s early learning and we have a range of ways for people to participate in their child’s learning and development. We welcome parents and carers in to the centre to read to children. If you have any skills you think the children will enjoy we are happy to support you to share them.
