Glenbrook Primary School

Clarence Avenue, Clapham, London, SW4 8LD

Glenbrook Primary School is a GOOD school which resides on open, attractive green spaces in the heart of Clapham Park.

We enjoy and actively work to maintain a strong community spirit among our children, parents and staff.

A brand new replacement two forms of entry [2FE] primary school is being built on the current Clarence Avenue site.

This purpose built, state of the art school will open on the eastern boarder of the existing site in the Spring Term 2018.

The new Glenbrook Primary School will provide a vibrant and stimulating learning environment for staff, pupils and their families. The new school has been expertly designed and will provide a modern educational facility within Lambeth.

Glenbrook recognises the potential of every individual to achieve excellence. We strive to positively address underachievement and have very high expectations for all members of our school community. At Glenbrook we work hard to creatively remove barriers to achievement and raise self-esteem. We are determined to create a true culture of ‘learning for all’ through meaningful partnerships with the whole school community.

At Glenbrook everyone works to provide a welcoming, calm, happy and purposeful atmosphere within which, as members of a culturally rich community, we provide an education free from discrimination. We want our school to be characterised by openness and honesty. We believe in commitment, opportunity, respect and excellence.

We deliver a broad, balanced, relevant and futures-focussed curriculum in an optimum learning environment that is attractive, stimulating and informative.

Glenbrook Primary School is part of the Gipsy Hill Federation and also the GHF Teaching School Alliance, with Kingswood being the lead school in the alliance.

GHF TSA has a wealth of experience in supporting schools to improve, both within the alliance itself and in schools in neighbouring boroughs. Our specialist areas of support include SEND and inclusive practice, with one of our senior team members being recently designated Nansen’s Regional SEND Leader for South East England and South London; Child-led learning and EYFS transition; and, philosophy and critical thinking across the curriculum, amongst others.

The Gipsy Hill Federation is driven by the belief that all children deserve of experience the very best teaching and learning opportunities at school, and that through working collaboratively this can be achieved.

Holmewood Nursery school is situated in Central Lambeth, off Brixton Hill.  The school is located in a densely populated area of contrasting households in terms of culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.

Holmewood provides education for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with 95 full time equivalent places in the main nursery (2 - 4 year olds) and 12 full time equivalent places in the two year old provision.  The school's intake is very culturally diverse with a high percentage of children from mixed, or Black-British / Caribbean / African backgrounds. Nearly half of the children speak English as an additional language, with many at the early stages of learning English.

Holmewood is federated with Maytree and Triangle Nursery Schools.  As a Federated Nursery School, Holmewood is led by an Executive Head Teacher, Head of School and teachers working with other qualified early years practitioners. Holmewood offers highly inclusive education with qualified and caring staff.  It has rich and varied indoor and outdoor learning environments that allow children to play and be active in developing and acquiring new skills and knowledge; children are well motivated and are thoroughly absorbed in their learning.

They are encouraged to experiment and explore and children are very well challenged to enable them to take risks safely and develop their own problem solving skills. Outdoor learning is supported through the Natural Thinkers curriculum and an extensive allotment.

Each child is allocated a Key Person, one of our skilled early years educators or teachers. They get to know the children in their group very well and work in collaboration with their parents. Teachers and practitioners support, encourage and facilitate learning opportunities so that children are happy, confident and independent learners.

All teachers and practitioners have a thorough understanding of children’s early learning and development and the early years foundation stage and understand the importance of working together with parents and other professionals.

At Holmewood, we believe in investing in professional development and bespoke training to meet individual needs so that all teachers and practitioners feel motivated and committed to the continuing success of the school.
