Kings Avenue School

Kings Avenue, London, SW4 8BQ

Kings Avenue School is in the London Borough of Lambeth, between Brixton and Clapham. We are a friendly, multicultural community school taking children from ages 3 – 11 years. We care for every child and develop their self-confidence within a safe, diverse, happy and stimulating learning environment. We will make Kings Avenue the first choice school for all the families in our community.

Kings Avenue looks forward to the future with confidence and will enthusiastically prepare children to make good choices as they face the challenges of a rapidly changing world. Our school community will embrace change and be passionate about lifelong learning for all.

We value and proudly celebrate the diversity of the school community and will nurture the wellbeing, self-confidence, sense of responsibility and self-esteem of all, within a safe and happy learning environment.

We will hold to the values we share, providing guidance, help and support to realise our vision with integrity, honesty, professionalism and commitment as part of a team. We will communicate clearly the vision and values of the school throughout our community.

At Kings Avenue Primary School, we believe that happiness is the key to success. Our children work within a happy and caring environment where their individual needs are met and talents nurtured.
Our aim is that all of our children enjoy success at primary school, so we set high expectations and provide support to ensure they receive the best education.

We are an improving school who use Building Learning Power to motivate and engage all children to become lifelong learners. It is about creating a culture in classrooms – and in the school more widely – that systematically cultivates habits and attitudes that enable young people to become better learners; face difficulty and uncertainty calmly, confidently and creatively.

Children who are more confident of their own learning ability learn faster and learn better. They concentrate more, think harder and find learning more enjoyable.

We will all expect the best, achieve the best and celebrate the successes of all.

Holmewood Nursery school is situated in Central Lambeth, off Brixton Hill.  The school is located in a densely populated area of contrasting households in terms of culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.

Holmewood provides education for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with 95 full time equivalent places in the main nursery (2 - 4 year olds) and 12 full time equivalent places in the two year old provision.  The school's intake is very culturally diverse with a high percentage of children from mixed, or Black-British / Caribbean / African backgrounds. Nearly half of the children speak English as an additional language, with many at the early stages of learning English.

Holmewood is federated with Maytree and Triangle Nursery Schools.  As a Federated Nursery School, Holmewood is led by an Executive Head Teacher, Head of School and teachers working with other qualified early years practitioners. Holmewood offers highly inclusive education with qualified and caring staff.  It has rich and varied indoor and outdoor learning environments that allow children to play and be active in developing and acquiring new skills and knowledge; children are well motivated and are thoroughly absorbed in their learning.

They are encouraged to experiment and explore and children are very well challenged to enable them to take risks safely and develop their own problem solving skills. Outdoor learning is supported through the Natural Thinkers curriculum and an extensive allotment.

Each child is allocated a Key Person, one of our skilled early years educators or teachers. They get to know the children in their group very well and work in collaboration with their parents. Teachers and practitioners support, encourage and facilitate learning opportunities so that children are happy, confident and independent learners.

All teachers and practitioners have a thorough understanding of children’s early learning and development and the early years foundation stage and understand the importance of working together with parents and other professionals.

At Holmewood, we believe in investing in professional development and bespoke training to meet individual needs so that all teachers and practitioners feel motivated and committed to the continuing success of the school.
