Richard Atkins Primary School

New Park Road, London SW2 4JP

We are looking to appoint outstanding teachers to inspire, motivate and challenge our pupils to learn, achieve and exceed their potential.

Richard Atkins Primary School is a wonderful vibrant and inclusive two form entry Primary School and Nursery in the heart of Lambeth which Ofsted described as having “an impressive climate for learning”, where “pupils are keen to share their achievements and are proud of their school” (Ofsted 2017) . We have fantastic rail, tube and bus links, superb views across the Capital and easy access to London's historical, cultural and gastronomical delights. Situated in beautiful Victorian building at the top of Brixton Hill our school has proudly served our wonderfully socially, culturally and ethnically diverse community since 1897.

At Richard Atkins, we empower children to achieve excellence in all that they do; setting them on a life of infinite possibility where they understand just how big their world can be and know that they are their own creators.  With a purpose driven, high quality provision; we endeavour to foster fundamental values including growth, integrity, courage, excellence, curiosity and empowerment. We are a warm, vibrant and inclusive school constantly striving to enhance the teaching provision and learning experiences of all.

In addition to maintaining high standards across the curriculum, our dedicated team make it their job to harness and encapsulate the personal strengths of each child; from music to martial arts we work hard to build a curriculum around the child in order to challenge and enthuse each of our pupils and to inspire their curiosity and their courage to succeed.

We are an outward looking School and have built strong local partnerships in order that we can co-raise principled young people and to expose them to learning that has meaning far beyond school life. We particularly value the support of our committed parents and carers and work in close partnership with them and the wider community to ensure the best possible outcomes for all our pupils.

We value and invest in the professional development of all our staff through effective, personalised CPD programmes to enhance and develop their knowledge and skills. We are also proud to play a leading role within the Windmill Cluster of Schools with whom we share ideas, resources and expertise in order to develop staff and facilitate the highest outcomes in attainment and aspiration for our pupils and the wider community.

Our pupils are an absolute delight; visitors always comment on how polite, respectful and welcoming our pupils are and we are extremely proud of each and every one of them!

Don’t take our word for it; if you are an innovative and creative teacher looking to join a highly committed and enthusiastic team in our supportive, dynamic and vibrant school, please call and arrange a visit.

Holmewood Nursery school is situated in Central Lambeth, off Brixton Hill.  The school is located in a densely populated area of contrasting households in terms of culture, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.

Holmewood provides education for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with 95 full time equivalent places in the main nursery (2 - 4 year olds) and 12 full time equivalent places in the two year old provision.  The school's intake is very culturally diverse with a high percentage of children from mixed, or Black-British / Caribbean / African backgrounds. Nearly half of the children speak English as an additional language, with many at the early stages of learning English.

Holmewood is federated with Maytree and Triangle Nursery Schools.  As a Federated Nursery School, Holmewood is led by an Executive Head Teacher, Head of School and teachers working with other qualified early years practitioners. Holmewood offers highly inclusive education with qualified and caring staff.  It has rich and varied indoor and outdoor learning environments that allow children to play and be active in developing and acquiring new skills and knowledge; children are well motivated and are thoroughly absorbed in their learning.

They are encouraged to experiment and explore and children are very well challenged to enable them to take risks safely and develop their own problem solving skills. Outdoor learning is supported through the Natural Thinkers curriculum and an extensive allotment.

Each child is allocated a Key Person, one of our skilled early years educators or teachers. They get to know the children in their group very well and work in collaboration with their parents. Teachers and practitioners support, encourage and facilitate learning opportunities so that children are happy, confident and independent learners.

All teachers and practitioners have a thorough understanding of children’s early learning and development and the early years foundation stage and understand the importance of working together with parents and other professionals.

At Holmewood, we believe in investing in professional development and bespoke training to meet individual needs so that all teachers and practitioners feel motivated and committed to the continuing success of the school.

Visits to the school can be arranged by contacting the school office.
